The Greatest Job in the World
Its a double-edged sword. And we're suckers for punishment.
The greatest job in the world, if it weren’t for the customers.
I am not sure where I originally heard that, but it is very true when it comes to web design and development. It is something that I enjoy doing, which is always a great thing to call a job. But the one drawback is when I have to deal directly with customers.
This is a curse that is tied to the fact that we are in a service industry. An industry that must interact with clients in order to be successful. We do not have an “off-the-shelf” product, but rather a custom solution to help out a client. And more often then not, those who succeed in our industry are not only those who make beautiful sites or powerful applications but those who have captured the true nature of their client. After all, we live and die by word of mouth so the client comes first.
